Brown Eggs

Sometimes I wonder if homegrown (home-laid?) eggs are like snowflakes, no two the same.

These eggs are from red sex-linked or black sex-linked hens crossed with a black copper marans rooster. They’re probably the prettiest chicken eggs I’ve ever seen.

We just moved our laying chickens out of theĀ patch of timber bamboo that was getting pretty muddy up the hill to a pen with a gorgeous view. They are much happier and have really started to ramp up production for the late winter/early spring laying season. We’ll be eating a lot of frittatas and scrambles in the next couple months.

Gorgeous! When Jim and I lived in NJ, we would buy our eggs from a local farm that raised a variety of happy chickens. It was always a surprise when we opened the carton to see what kind of shapes, colors and sizes our eggs were that week – I really miss it!

Those are gorgeous! I’ve always wanted to get some Welsummer or Marans so I could get “dark chocolate” eggs!

Beautiful eggs! I can’t wait for my mom’s hens to start laying again, her eggs are so much prettier than the grocery store’s boring old white eggs.

i read that no two bird eggs are the same and that the individual markings on them are made when the egg is passing through the ova duct and the shell is sort of a porous canvas that picks up the markings!

neat eh?!

Beautiful pictures! I find that to be the case with my brown egg laying chickens as well. The size shape and even the color vary from time to time. Great site found it on stumble upon.
