My Summertime Home Office

We dusted off and hung up the porch swing the other day. I love this swing so much.

Henry’s dad made if for us as a wedding gift almost six years ago. It’s one of many things in our home that were produced in Henry’s parents’ professional woodworking shop that burned down January (an event that I wrote about here). So much was lost in that fire (including the crib my kids used as babies seen here), but like so many of Henry’s parents’ customers in this community, I am so grateful and honored to hold onto a few pieces of the shop’s history.

Henry’s parents are in the process of building a new shop for their business, and thankfully, their lives have returned more or less to normal. There was a big article in the local newspaper about their recovery and rebuilding efforts the other day that showcased the huge outpouring of community support they received after the fire.

Right now, I’m just looking forward to a nice, warm summer with a few out of town visitors, a birthday party or two, and lots of fishing, berry picking, canning, scrubbing dirty kids in the front-porch bathtub, and eating every fruit and vegetable I can get my hands on.

Happy lazy summer days, all!

What a lovely swing! And so special that you have something remaining from Henrry’s dad’s woodworking. That fire must have been such a loss. I love all the woodworking in your home – you have a very talented family!

We have a large mango tree out the back and we’re hoping to hang a bench swing similar to this one day. We can imagine lots of hot days spent in the shade reading and looking up into the branches of the tree.
